Summer Time!

I'm out of school, my finals are done, I'm home and resting, applying for jobs and getting ready for an internship. It's shaping up to be a busy summer, and I can't help but wonder:

Will this be as difficult as the last summer?

Last summer, the "attendance boss" brought down many guilds. During summer, many more people are able to go outside, and do things other than play on the computer, as opposed to being snowed into their houses. This was compounded by the rapidly approaching expansion, rendering the current content nearly obsolete. Though there is arguably more play time for those of school age, at the same time, those with full-time jobs will be more inclined to spend the hours outside of their jobs enjoying the nice weather. As well, vacations are generally WoW-free times.

This summer, however, has a lot going for it. With the expansion less than six months old, and Ulduar recently released, the temptation to play and conquer the hard modes may be able to counteract some of the sunshine's allure. It's also only a matter of time before even more new content is released, and the urge to stay in the know and on top could pull more people inside.

I personally am going to have a little less time this summer for WoW. With an internship, possible multiple part-time jobs and preparations for applying to grad school, I have a lot on my plate. I'm interested to know what is going to keep people playing during the summer months, and what's going to pull them away.

I suspect the amount of distractions will be strongly related to how far you are in playing the content. For those like myself who have never set foot in Ulduar and aren't likely to any time immediately, getting the gear that will allow me to will still drive me to play for some time yet.

We are in Ulduar 10 and I'm wondering if we are starting to see the drop-off already... this Saturday's Naxx-25 is seeing the lightest signups so far since we started it. Since we are in the position of having too many raiders for a single 10-man run to support, but not enough for 2 10-man teams, much less a 25, we are in recruitment phase, healers in particular. Exactly where we were last year at this time, and success was mixed and not long-lived, sadly.

So I'm watching things and trying to guess the trend to predict its effect on guild activities to come.

"STAND IN THE FIRE"

"WHAT FIRE?"

"THE FIRE OUT THERE, DO IT NOW NOW NOW"

Similar to you, I am just about to finish finals.

However, I have a six or seven month period before I start University (only late February/early March).

Also, I will be taking a nice tour round Europe with my family, and going to see some friends there too, so that'll be stopping me from WoW.

All in all, I'll be less on WoW, by a fair amount, but I'll still go on from time to time. So less raiding and more dailies!

I don't know what's going to be keeping everyone else away but for me it's that I'm going to be going on a trip out of country and also going to be having a fair amount of family barbecues which leaves little time for WoW.

Good luck with your internship! :)
